Mycorrhizal symbiosis has an important role in plant nutrition and water supply. It has been used extensively in agriculture, forestry and ranging practices. This research was conducted to determine the effects of environmental factors such as temperature, moisture, salinity, soil type and altitude in kind and distribution of mycorrhizal association in parts of northern forests of Iran. soil samples were taken using a cylindrical steel borer at the canopy of trees or grasses at eight stations, from 20 meters altitude up to 505 meters. Soils were washed through screen meshes and roots were separated. Spores of endomycorrhizal fungi were isolated from soil samples using standard methods and the genera Glomus, Gigaspora, Acaulospora were identified. Microscopic examination of roots revealed presence of three kinds of myconhizal association (endomycorrhizae, ectomycorrhziae and ectendomycorrhizae) Phosphorous concentration of soil was the most important factor mycorrhizal establishment. Soil type also affected mycorrhizae symbiosis. It seems that ectomycorrhziae dominates when altitude increases. This corresponds with the finding of other research
