Screw bean, Prosopis spicigera, is an important tree in Bushehr Province. Screw bean seeds are severely attacked by seed affecting pests, which, seed planting accounts as the primary pnopagation method'of this species. In the course of a survey carried out in 1997 to 1998, two seed affecting species belonging to Bruchidae family were collected and identified. Our studies demonstratedthat Caryedon serratus severely damaged the seeds of the host trees. Meanwhile, a few number of seeds were damagedby Bruchidius sp. The results of this research is mainly focused on C. serratus as the most important seed pest is widely distributed across the province from Kangan to Bandar-Abbas. High amount of damage was observed in June and November. Number of holes on seed pods were used as an index to quantify damage rate. The rate of seed damage estimated 20%o to 30o/o for the seed pods on standing trees and 70%oto 90o/o for the pods around the trees bases. Various developmental stages including, larva, pupa and adult were able to overwinter in seed pods in Bushehr province. Average generation time at 27 ±2 °C was 47± 3 days during June and August.
