Wood peckers of the family Picidae contain about 200 species across the world. Their sturdy, pointed bill is used to peck holes in tree bark to get insects out of hidden areas. A field study was carried out in Safrabasteh Poplar Station to investigate the role of woodpeckers activity on different poplar clones and species to lessen Paranthrene tabaniformis Rott. (Lep.: Sesiidae). Infestation The study involved 3600 cuttings of ten clones and species planted in 3 replication in a randomized complete blocks design. In each block 120 cutting were planted and after the growing season, tree diameter, height and woodpeckers activity symptoms were recorded . Result of statistical analysis of variance using SAS software didn't show any significant difference between woodpeckers affected stands andreduction of Paranthrene tabaniformis infestation. Meanwhile predation activity of the bird was depended on the occurrence of the galls and not on any specific poplar clone or species.
