Abstract

During the research carried out on evaluating the resistance and susceptibility of different genotypes of damask rose; Rosa damascene against Osphranteria coerulescens, and efficacy of associated natural enemies, white mycelia of a fungus was observed on dead larvae of the pest. Infected branches carrying pest larvae were cut and transferred to the laboratory in late winter 2005. The branches were opened and number of the dead larvae was recorded for every genotype.
The fungus was cultured on PDA media and was purified later by single spore method. According to macroscopic and microscopic characteristics, especially color of fungi colony and form of phialids, the fungus was identified as P.liliacinus (Thom) Samson. This fungus is reported for the first time from Iran and pathogencity of the fungus on Osphranteria coerulescens larvae is reported for the first time in Iran as well as the world.
