New report of four oak gall wasp species from Iran

Abstract

In the course of executing of the national research project, collecting and identifying oak gall inducing insects in Iran (2002 - 2004), four different galls -induced by cynipid wasps (Hym.Cynipidae) were collected on Quercus infectoria, in Zagross oak forests located in north-west and west of Iran: on Q.macranthera in Arasbaran forest in East-Azerbaijan and on Q.petrea in Hatam-Big foret in Ardabil province. The collected galls were taken to the laboratory and emerging follows: gall inducing wasps were isolated. The wasps inducing these galls were identified as bellow:
1- Andricus querquscalicis Burgsderf.
Galls induced by this wasp were collected on Aug.28 2002 from Ghabre-Hossein, 30 Km. from Pyranshahre and from Baneh and Marivan in early to mid of summer in Kurdistan province.
2- A. hystrix Trotter.
Galls induced by this insect were collected on 22.8.2002 form Ghabre-Hossein, 30 Km. from Pyranshahre and from Baneh and Marivan in the early to middle of summer in Kurdistan province.
3- A. polycerus Harteg.
Galls induced by this cynipid wasp were collected from Bazarche-Marzi near Sardasht city in west-Azerbaijan province on 19.8.2002 and from Ghabre-Hossein, located 30 Km. from Pyranshahre on 13.10.2004, in the early to middle of summer in Baneh and Marivan of Kurdistan province, Gahvareh in Kermansh province and Galagii in Lorestan province respectively. Galls of this wasp were also collected on Q.macranthera in Shah-Yourdi in Arasbaran forest and on Q.petraea in Hatam-Big oak forest in Meshkin-Shahr on 11.10.2004.
4- A. galeatus Harteg.
Galls of this wasp were collected on 13.10.2004 & 27.6.2002 from Ghabre-Hossein, located 30 Km. from Pyranshahre, from Gahvareh region in Kermanshah, in the early to middle of summer and in the same period in Baneh and Marivan of Kurdistan province, and Galagii region in Lorestan province.
