First report of powdery mildew caused by Leveillula taurica on three range plants in Iran

Abstract

Three range plants infected with powdery mildew were collected from Hirab area in Boroujerd, Lorestan province. Following identification of the host plants as Circium adancum Fisch & C.Mey., Centaurea solstitialis L. and Astragalus kirrindicus Boiss, slides of fungus organs in lactophenol anilin blue solution were prepared and micrometry was performed on 100 of any organs, including cleistothecium, asci, ascospores and conidium with the calibrated BH2 microscope. All characters of the fungal organs were registered and the shape of the organs were drawed using drawing tube. The fungi was identified as Leveillula taurica (Lev.) arnaud, using the identification key of Braun (1987) causing powdery mildew on all the above mentioned range plants. This is the first report of L. taurica causing powdery mildew on the three range plants in Iran.
